I am deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend David, whom we lovingly called Daouda Keita in Mali. For months, I have been trying to reach him, unaware of what had happened. The last message I received from David was to inform me about his battle with cancer, but even then, his spirit remained unbroken. He was still eager to return to Africa and continue helping those in need.David was a remarkable person who touched countless lives during his time in Mali. We worked together, shared adventures, and created memories that will last a lifetime. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others made him a beloved figure to so many.It is now my difficult responsibility to inform all of our friends in Mali that David has passed away, and this is why he has not been able to respond to our messages. His absence will be felt deeply, and he will always hold a special place in our hearts.May the Almighty God accept David into His paradise. David will remain in our hearts and prayers forever. Rest in peace, my dear friend. We miss you so much in Africa. 😭
When I first joined the staff at CCIH - where David served as a Board member - I quickly learned how valuable his knowledge and skills in communications and media were, and how willing he was to share them! I never hesitated to go to David for advice on journalism and media - I found his instincts and judgement to be spot on. I also found his jovial and light-hearted nature inspiring and reassuring. As I learned more about how he lived his life - treasuring family, friends, travel and experiences - I grew to admire him even more. He was a special person who greatly improved the lives of those around him.
