David's obituary

David Barton, 62, of Clearwater, FL passed away on April 09, 2023, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He proudly served his country in the Air National Guard for 27 years. He worked as the Chief Financial Officer for the Dunedin Fine Arts Center in Dunedin, FL for 7 years. He loved volunteering at many of the amazing events they held throughout the year, including the yearly Garden Party and annual Wearable Art events. He was extremely passionate about ministry to the deaf. He was fluent in American Sign Language and showcased his talents as often as possible. Many people described his interpreting as a symphony to anyone that experienced it. On top of his contributions to the local arts community, he loved giving his time and talents to many committees and boards within the Metropolitan Community Church, in both St Louis, Missouri and St Petersburg, Florida. While in St Louis, he served on the board for several years and was an active member of the choir. In St Petersburg, he gave his time to the pastoral search committee for the local church, as well as the Board of Pensions at the denominational level. David was also a fierce lover of animals. Growing up, the Barton family owned and raised several horses, where he learned to ride and compete in equestrian competitions. He was also fondly known as the dog whisperer to many fur babies. There wasn’t an animal he encountered that he didn’t love and they loved him right back. David will be dearly missed and always remembered.

David was predeceased by his father, Hugh Hollis Barton III. He is survived by the following: Kurn Long - husband; Maureen Barton - mother; Wanda Loew - sister; Charlie Loew - Brother-in-law; Jason Loew - nephew; Kristi Nation - niece; Eric Nation - Kristy's husband; Blakely - great niece; Melissa Ray - niece; Hayden Ray - great nephew; Benjamin, Samuel, Isabela Estrada - godchildren; Diana and Maria Estrada - godchildren's mothers, Jonathan Copeland - chosen son; Gina and Kelly Durbin - chosen family.

David requested a celebration of life be held in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of David’s loved ones to join us in celebrating his beautiful life at Lakewood United Methodist Church in St Petersburg, FL on Saturday, April 22 at 2pm. There will be a time to gather and fellowship after the service at Christ the Cornerstone Church in Pinellas Park, FL.
