David's obituary
We are sad to announce the passing of David “Dave” Waldron Horne who passed peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2023, at the age of 72. Dave was born to Harold and Phyliss Horne on June 5, 1951, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is survived by his two children Leilani Burke and Jesse Evnetzky as well as his two grandchildren and four siblings.
In his lifetime, Dave had many successes as a retired banker, entrepreneur, Scout Leader, and Sunday school teacher at Congregation Albert of Albuquerque, NM. He had a taste for traveling the Southwest and a passion for celebration, laughter, tales, the arts, and so much more. But he filled much of his time with learning which led to his inevitable mastery of pottery and painting in his final years. Dave achieved many wonderful things, but above all, was most proud of his two children—and thankful knowing that they had both known true happiness.
Dave will be remembered as a profoundly loving and thoughtful soul whose kindness touched the lives of many. That rare kind of warmth that radiated from Dave’s presence enveloped all who knew him, leaving an irreplaceable void with his passing.
In remembrance of Dave, below is a quote from one of his favorite books and authors, The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran:
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.”
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
