Allen's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Allen Holladay, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Allen was born in 1933 and left us too soon on April 26, 2024.

Coach Holladay is survived by his daughter, Lisa Waters, son-in-law, Kevin Waters, son, Doug Holladay, granddaughter, Lindsay Holladay, greatgrandson, Malakai, son, Chris Holladay, daughter-in-law, Shawn Holladay, grandson, Austin Holladay, granddaughter, Kylee Nugent, greatgranddaughter, Makayla, greatgrandson, Ashten, brother-in-law, Ronald Snow, sister-in-law, Sue Snow, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Martha Holladay, his father, Herman T and mother Maudie Lee, five brothers, three sisters and many good friends.

Educated at Waco Technical High, Class of '51, McMurry College, Abilene,BS in '55 and Texas Tech University, Masters Education in '61.

Allen led a remarkable career, starting at Lubbock High as World History teacher, assistant football coach in 1957, then at Colorado City High in 1962, moving on to positions at O'Donnell High School, Lufkin High School, Richardson High School, and Berkner High. He ended his professional journey as Athletic Director RISD, before retiring from the Texas Teachers Association in 1989. His dedication to teaching and coaching sports culminated in his induction into the McMurry University and Waco Tech Hall of Honors in 2004.

Avid viewer of news, Lawrence Welk, football, and Texas Rangers games, Coach also enjoyed watching western films and musicals. His favorite sports teams included the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He treasured travel, golf, and creating memories with family and friends. His preferred forms of exercise, weather permitting, involved walking two miles daily around Cottonwood Park.

Allen was known for his hardworking, creative, and caring nature. Best described as a loving husband, father, uncle and friend, he left a profound impact on those around him. His wisdom and life lessons—centered around discipline, respect, and the importance of living life to the fullest—encouraged others to lead fulfilling lives. His perseverance and kindness were his defining traits, and will forever remain as his legacy.

A memorial service will be held in Allen's honor on May 20, 2024, at 3:30 PM at the First Baptist Richardson. We invite all who knew Allen to attend and celebrate a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by hundreds, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holladay Scholarship Fund at McMurry University, 1400 Sayles Blvd, Abilene, TX 79697, or Alzheimer's Foundation of America (866-232-8484).    You are welcome to join us continuing Dad's "Celebration of life"😊  We have small banquet room reserved at the Doubletree Hotel at SW corner of 75 and Campbell.

5:30-7:30 after the 3:30 First Baptist service on Monday, May 20. Please join us in honoring our Dad.💜💚
