David's obituary

David J. Hawkins, age 68 suddenly passed away September 5th, 2018 in Homosassa Florida. He was pronounced dead at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, Crystal River. David was born February 6th, 1950 in Plainfield, New Jersey & raised in Bridgewater Township. He had a great enthusiasm for life & laughter. As a youngster at different times he nursed an injured racoon, squirrel, & bird then sent them back to the wild praying they would survive. He worked at Vogel's Horse Farm where he learned to ride. He trapped for small game & sold the pelts. He was an avid hunter, swift with a high powered bow & a 22 shotgun. He enjoyed riding motorcycles & drag racing for pink slips with his 57' Chevy. Through intermediate school, he won trophy's for wrestling & softball. He was on the YMCA swim team. At the age of 12 he worked weekends with his father who was the lead water well driller & pump installer for Somerville Well Drilling. Eventually, he bought a telephone that literally sat on the dining room chair of his parent's house in Bridgewater & by the age of 23 he officially went into business with his parents, Charlie & Betty, & his brother Skip. He enjoyed a good hard day's work & when the day was done he always had time & energy for his children as he would later on for his grandchildren. They were his pride & joy. In 1993, he moved to Florida to be with his best friend & brother, Skip where they continued the family business, "Hawkins Well & Pump Company."

David is survived by his only sister, Charlene & husband, Jeff McNally from Somerset County New Jersey, son, David Michael, daughter, Kelly & husband, Derek Baehr residing in Florida, son, Jarrett also in Florida, & daughter, Karabeth Hawkins Bothwell of Massachusetts. Granddaughters, Mackenzie, Gabrielle, Carlie, Kiley, & Keirra, nephew Craig in California, nephew Ronnie from New Jersey, with many nieces and cousins.

He was a loving & devoted; son, brother, father, grandfather, & friend.

Beloved; you have filled our hearts with loving memories & laughter. You taught us strong leadership & healthy work ethics. Until we meet again, you will be missed, yet celebrated.
