David's obituary
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who passed away on March 10, 2026, surrounded by family. Born in 1940 in Newtonville, Indiana, he was raised on a family farm alongside his three siblings. The values of hard work, faith, family and the love of nature shaped during those early years stayed with him throughout his life. He attended Purdue University, where he earned a degree in mathematics. He began his professional life as a high school math teacher at Harrison High School in Evansville, Indiana, where he met his wife, Rita Bell. Later, he pursued a sales and marketing opportunity with IBM, a career change that took his growing family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he continued to live for the rest of his years.
David was the beloved husband of 59 years to his devoted wife Rita Hagedorn (Bell). Together they raised six children and were blessed with thirteen grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. Also a devoted son, he spent years caring for his mother, Loretta Hagedorn (Cassidy) until her passing shortly before her 104th birthday. An avid outdoorsman, he loved spending time in nature. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially baseball - a love which he passed on to several of his grandchildren. He had a natural gift for connecting with people. His warmth, kindness and sense of humor made him a friend to many. A devoted member of Good Shepherd Parish, his Catholic faith was central to his life. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the family he cherished dearly.
David was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Hagedorn, his mother, Loretta Hagedorn (Cassidy), and his brother, Paul Hagedorn. David and his wife Rita Hagedorn (Bell) have six children Jeff, Todd (Emily), Lisa Kinley (Danny), Jamie Accurso (Nick), Gina Eiben (Matt) and Kevin (Ethel). David was the proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren Nathan, Juniper, Arlo, Beck, Calvin, Nina, Colette, Milo, Estelle, Charles, Theodore, Olive and Ines. He is also survived by his brother Ronnie Hagedorn and sister Tryllis Weinstein, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E Kemper Road, Cincinnati, OH 45249. Visitation will begin at 8:45 am, followed by Mass from 10:00, and a reception immediately following, In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations may be directed to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
