David's obituary

David L. Garcia passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, on July 18, 2024. Born on September 6, 1960, in Hobbs, NM, to Ubaldo (Walt) and Esperanza Garcia, David's life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1978, where he proudly wore number 13 while playing football and baseball. He went on to earn a B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas Tech University in 1982, where he made lifelong memories with his best friends.

In 1990, David met the love of his life, Irene. They were married in 1993 and shared 31 beautiful years together, raising their cherished children, Gabriel and Adriana. David's career in accounting and finance spanned over 40 years, marked by his unwavering commitment and integrity. He held significant positions in the public sector, including 24 years with Midland Independent School District as Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Most recently, he served as Deputy Superintendent of Business Operations for Hurst-Euless-Bedford School District before retiring and becoming Director of Public Finance for Huntington Capital Markets.

David was not only a dedicated professional but also a passionate golfer. He found joy and camaraderie on the golf course, playing countless rounds with family and friends across New Mexico, Texas, and many courses in the U.S. His love for the game was only surpassed by his love for his family.

David was an avid fan of Texas Tech sports and the New York Yankees, always cheering on his favorite teams with enthusiasm and pride. He also had a deep love for nature and the outdoors, cherishing the time spent with his family in Ruidoso, NM, where they created countless memories together.

Known affectionately by many nicknames such as Mr. Sunshine, Budget Guy, Daddy, Pops, Butter Beam, and Papa G, David will be forever remembered for his warmth, kindness, and sense of humor. He was the heart of every gathering and his smile could light up an entire room.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Irene Garcia of Fort Worth, TX; his beloved daughter, Adriana Garcia of Grapevine, TX; his loving son, Gabriel Garcia of Fort Worth, TX; his cherished daughter-in-law, Katie Garcia; and his adored grandsons, Griffin Elliott Garcia and Graham Ellison Garcia. He is also survived by his brothers Tom Garcia (spouse Barry Morris) of Midland TX; Johnny M. Garcia of Hobbs NM; Ubaldo L. Garcia Jr. (spouse Yvonne Marie Garcia) of Hobbs NM; his sister Adelita G. Carrasco of Midland TX; and nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his loving parents Ubaldo (Walt) and Esperanza Garcia of Hobbs NM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Saint Thomas: One Family Growing Together in Faith campaign or the HEB ISD Scholarship Foundation. Your generosity will honor David's memory and support the causes he cherished.
