David's obituary
David R. Gaffney Sr., 52, of Naugatuck, Connecticut, passed away on December 2, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on March 27, 1973, in Waterbury, he was a lifelong Connecticut resident whose outgoing personality and love for family and friends left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
David graduated from Naugatuck High School with the Class of 1991. Known for his loud, funny personality and signature bear hugs, David had a way of making people feel welcome and loved wherever he went.
He shared 32 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Amy (Barbieri) Gaffney. Together they raised two children—David Gaffney Jr. and Maggie Gaffney.
David is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Christine (Fox) Gaffney; his sisters Kelly (Gaffney) DiDonato and her husband Jason, and Dawn (Gaffney) Hannon and her husband Eric; as well as his brother Eric Gaffney. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his father, Edward Gaffney; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ann and Vin Barbieri.
David found joy in collecting Hot Wheels cars, baseball hats, tote bags, and stolen pens. He loved playing cards with friends and family and was always eager to try new foods. A devoted sports fan, David cheered for the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and the Miami Dolphins.
David’s presence brought energy to every room he entered. His humor could lift spirits in an instant, while his hugs offered comfort that words could never match. His memory will live on through the stories shared by those who knew him best.
