My condolences to David's family and friends. David was very friendly to my brother (see above) and me (at the left). We met at Ferry Beach, where my brother and I went to summer camp for six years in a row, run by the Unitarian Universalist Association.  We met again through LRY (Liberal Religious Youth). I visited Springfield at least once for a LRY conference which I remember because David gave a splendid tour of the Church, the history of the park, and neighborhood. I remember Margaret and Paula and his wonderful parents: I was a guest of theirs in their house one weekend that I remember. David was a born historian, an excellent storyteller with a historian's concern for detail and verifiability and justice.  Clearly he impressed my grandparents (both with a deep sense of New England history), as they invited him to join us at their cottage at Lake Sunapee. I don't rememeber them ever inviting any of our other friends. He was a great guest. Above all I remember his stories of Springfield's "urban renewal," and of the Barney family, and Classical High School. His passion for historical preservation was present from very early on! A kind, generous, open-hearted soul! Who respected girls and women! What an honor to have known him. My deepest sympathy. His memory will live on!
