My father was a great man who served his country well. First he served in the Army as a NCO in the Special Forces, Green Berets, then he continued to serve our country with the DEA helping to protect the people of America by working at keeping drugs off our street.
He retired several years ago and seemed to be perfectly healthy. He went to regular doctor's visits and was told that besides some arthritis he was healthier than most men his age. Then, one night, he seemed to have a difficult time keeping his balance and had a fever. We called 911 and they came and took him to the hospital. After several tests later we were told that he had had a severe heart attack and that he had leukemia.
We were stunned. The doctors told us they didn't know how long he would be with us. I had to take unpaid leave from work to help care for him, but only three days after he returned home he passed away. My father didn't have life insurance, we didn't have time to save for anything, and we do plan on having a yard sale to see what money we can get together to pay for funeral expenses.
