David's obituary

David L. Fox of Hillsborough, NC, went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2025 surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. Born in Akron, Ohio, David’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of God’s grace, love, and faithful service. David devoted his life to ministry, spending many years as a pastor, church planter, and hospice chaplain. He preached and taught, prayed and guided, loved and cared—making the love of Jesus tangible to all who knew him. His quiet strength and unwavering faith touched countless lives and many came to know Christ through his gentle guidance.

After retiring from pastoral ministry, David worked in real estate, where he helped families find their perfect home. He later returned to ministry as a hospice chaplain, providing compassionate spiritual care to individuals and their families during their most tender moments. In the final chapter of his ministry, David found joy and deep community serving in the prayer ministry at The Summit Church in Alamance County where he mentored and built strong bonds with brothers in Christ.

A man of deep faith and constant prayer, David was known as a steadfast prayer warrior—always eager to share stories of answered prayers as he encouraged others in their walk with God. David also had a creative spirit and a great love for the arts, especially the theater. One of his favorite roles was playing Johnny in The Unsinkable Molly Brown. He enjoyed reading his Bible with a mug of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and discovering local bakeries where he could savor a good pastry. But his greatest joy came from time spent with his family.

David is lovingly remembered by his wife, LaVonne, who shared with him a life filled with love, beach walks, swim meets, grandchildren, and peaceful days in the lakeside home they built together—where deer visit their yard and David tended to his beloved butterfly garden.

He is also survived by his children: Paul (Kathy) Fox, Jennifer (Dale) Schmatz, Sherri (Claudio) Kong, and Trevor (Sue-Anna) Badour. David was a proud and cherished "Papa" to Jared (Sarah), Ryan, Caleb, Emily, Ariel, Willow, Lucas, and Lily. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary (Noah) Green and Katie (Dick) Byerley, along with extended family and many beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Fox and Esther Fox (later married to Marvin Bell), and his brothers, Mark and James Fox.

David’s legacy is one of love, faith, encouragement, and steadfast devotion to both God and people. His life touched generations, and the impact of his prayers, kindness, and teaching will continue to echo in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
