Dave's obituary

David (Dave) Gordon Forton, age 74, passed peacefully on November 10, 2021, at St Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY.

Dave was born on May 23, 1947 in Lima, Ohio to Gordon and Rosemary (Smith) Forton. He graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School and the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota). He had a career in sales for McSwain Carpet, Carpetland, and Superior Honda. He retired from The Newport Syndicate. Dave attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Ft. Thomas, KY. He was kind and patient with children and spent many years as a volunteer tutor at Notre Dame Urban Education Center in Covington, KY. He enjoyed season tickets to Xavier Musketeer basketball games, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a generous person with a ready and resonant laugh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, and a nephew.

Dave is survived by his beautiful wife, Sharon (Huiet) of Villa Hills. Always having a sense of humor, Dave chose April Fool’s Day, 1977 as their wedding date and they enjoyed life together for the following 44 years. Dave was a great family man and a loving father to their six children; Keith Forton (Thelisa), Jeff Forton (Tracie), Betsi Rutkowski (Dave), Jenn Forton (Ben Potter), Jon Green (Melissa), and Michael Forton. He had seventeen grandchildren; Brittany Bowman (deceased), Danny Miller, Elena Forton (Tyler Niemeyer), Sarah Castle (Jon), Benjamin Potter, Morgan Potter, Anthony McMurray (Megan Pettit), Ollie Forton, Derek Forton, Selena Forton, Mason Rutkowski, Zachary Forton, Alexis Green, Kayla Forton, Kyle Forton, Isaac Forton, and Devyn Green. He was the beloved great grandfather of Ava, Rylee, Ringo, Frank, and Elijah. He is also survived by his sisters Polly Helmig (Denny), Betsi Hurd (Patrick), and many nieces and nephews.

Dave had an altruistic nature. To continue this spirit, with the hope of gaining knowledge and helping others, Dave’s body has been donated to medical science.

A celebration of life reception is scheduled for 3-6 pm on Sunday, November 21st, at The Newport Syndicate. Please join the family to honor and celebrate Dave’s life.

Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Notre Dame Urban Education Center (www.nduec.org) or perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
