Wow! So sad to hear of Dave's passing. Dave took me under his wing as a young inexperienced blues bass player and let me play with him for several years when he and Cathy lived in Black Mountain. I had only played in one rock band and spent most of my years playing bass in church, with a southern gospel feel.
Dave loved sharing Jesus in his music and I have to many stories to share on here, but that time in my musical journey, was the best of my life. I just found a recording that was made at a coffee house in Weaverville, NC on October 3, 2003. We played a version of 'Beulah Land' like most people hand never heard. The writer of the song, Squire Parsons, heard us do his song the 'Dave' way and he loved it.
There will never be another Blues Fiddler. Can't wait to get to heaven so I can play with him again.
Love you Dave, see you when the Lord calls me home or He comes back!

Dave used to come play all the time for my members at Adult Enrichment Centers. I loved to hear him belt out Georgia on my Mind. We were sad when he was forced by his health to stop coming. Even sadder now - keep on singing the Blue Dave with your Funky White Fiddle.

Dave is my first cousin. Since I live in Mobile, Al Dave and I didn't get to see each other often but I loved Dave very much and cherished every minute we shared. Several months ago Dave butt dialed me and he told me he had a stroke and I was worried about him and invited him to come stay with me so I could help take care of him but he said he had some people checking on him. I am so thankful that we all have Dave's music we can listen to from time to time and just listen to his raspy voice that I love to hear. I love all my family and hate we are so far apart. A few years ago Dave and some other family members went out to eat with myself and my husband. That was the last time I saw Dave but I will always cherish that memory. Love you Dave...go rest high on that mountain!!!!

I'm so very sorry for your loss,,, and hated to hear of this. He was a special talent and we had many, many laughs together during the times we played together and after..

Dave and Cathy were a part of our Mountain View Baptist Church family for several years.....and a much beloved part of our personal lives. Our daughter, Sarah, even performed with Dave as a part of "The Road to Emmaus". Dave was such an encouragement to Sarah with her music.
We are so sorry to hear of Dave's passing....he will so be missed.
