David's obituary

David Myles Farquharson passed away unexpectedly on February 14, 2023 at the age of 31.

Born to Peggy and Dave Farquharson on February 26, 1991, Myles was, at nearly 10 pounds, a gentle giant of a baby, who became a gentle giant of a man.

Some of Myles' favorite activities were listening to music (his favorite was vinyl!), making and publishing music (Spotify links to follow!), playing video games with friends and family, and hanging around with friends from work, or at home with us. He had a plethora of hobbies, like building models of characters for tabletop games, collecting comic books with his dad, watching YouTube videos to teach himself skills he wanted to know -- like his most recent love, which was writing, recording, mixing, mastering, and publishing his own self-made music. He had a near alchemist's ability to customize home-brewed beer recipes, especially after we began to keg as opposed to bottle the finished beer.

He was very artistic. One of his loves was digital drawing and animation. He had a dream of working for Pixar as an animator. One of the photos shown above is him standing in front of a billboard adjacent to the Oakland Coliseum, on which is being displayed his own Oakland artwork. He loved that 8-bit game style, and loved Tower Of Power, Oakland musicians he depicted on the billboard.

Our family was not expecting the loss of Myles. We were already saddened by the loss of a very, very close friend in January, but that was followed by the absolute joy of Myles being the Man of Honor when his sister, Lacey, married her husband, Nicholas, in Benicia.

I think he would be astonished by the number of people who already and will forever miss him. Depression is a cruel beast. You might not be able to tell another person's struggle. Remember to share a smile and sprinkle kindness around like confetti.

We love you, Myles, and pray you found peace.

Myles' band, HOM, can be found in the links below. He finished and uploaded his third album a few weeks ago with a release date in mid-March.
