David Christopher Cleveland of Boulder, Colorado passed away at home October 5, 2019 after an extended illness. Dave attended Boulder High School and Front Range Community College before working as a manufacturing maintenance technician in the Boulder area for companies including Colspan Environmental Systems, Storage Technology, and Valleylab/Covidien/Medtronic. Family and friends were very important to him and he was loved by them. Predeceased by his parents, he leaves behind brothers Thomas, Jerry (Deborah), James (Gail), and sister Catherine. Friendly and funny, Dave was a cultural omnivore and could converse at length about almost any subject. He didn’t suffer fools — especially those in management and politics — gladly. A champion of immigrants, underdogs, and the marginalized, he was proud of the fact that he had been 86ed from a number of online forums for his controversial comments. He loved fly fishing, target shooting, participating in the CU Trivia Bowl, and riding his vintage BMW motorcycle. An expert in surfboard history, technology, and personalities, he had a collection of surfing memorabilia. When he passed peacefully in his bed he was wrapped in his beloved colorful surfboard-pattern comforter. If there is an afterlife, it is likely Dave is riding a perfect wave on a vintage longboard with the other late gods of surfing. As Jan and Dean sang in Ride The Wild Surf, “Gotta take that one last ride”.
