David's obituary

David "Dave" Clark, 68, of Portland, OR, peacefully passed away on July 14, 2023 surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with complications from a stroke.


Dave was born on December 12, 1954 to William and Virginia Clark in Oxnard, California. After Dave graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1973 he pursued a degree in Political Science at Portland State University.

After his time at PSU, he attended and graduated in the first graduating class from The Horst Mager Culinary School in Portland. He worked in the food and hospitality industry for over 38 years. Dave was passionate about cooking and catering and truly loved what he did for a living. As an entrepreneur Dave created Simply Elegant Food and Events. In 1984, he met Marilyn Williams at the Culinary School. Dave and Marilyn who sadly passed away last year, married and went on to have 4 children, Thianna, Sarah, Ian, and Zachary.   Dave retired in 2021 after 38 years of sharing his passion for food and his talent for catering for his many clients and friends. While retired, besides loving his role as Grandpa to Mason and Teagan, Dave had time to pursue his dream of becoming a scuba diver.  Dave also continued his service to Oregon DeMolay, where he recently received the high honor of Degree of Chevalier. He is survived by his mother Virginia Clark of Forest Grove, his Brothers William Clark of Forest Grove, Jim Clark of Caldwell ID, Sister-in-Law Ginger Clark, his Children Thianna Clark-Williams of Corvallis, Sarah Clark-Williams of Portland, Ian Clark-Williams of Portland, Zachary Clark-Williams of Portland, Nieces Jill Clark of Portland, Danica Clark of Lake Forest CA, and his 2 Grandchildren Mason and Teagan. A Celebration of Life for Dave  will be held at D'Anu Winery in Downtown Hillsboro (173 NE 3rd Avenue) on Sunday August 27th at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Oregon DeMolay Endowment Foundation which provides scholarships to the young men of DeMolay; or the SAFE Scuba School which provides scuba training and experience for individuals with disabilities.
