David's obituary
David Charlton, 79 of Alton, Illinois passed away from complications of coronavirus on April 22, 2022.
David is survived by his eldest son, Jonathan Matthew Charlton (Felicia), and his only granddaughter, Elaine Hope.
He is also survived by his sons, Patrick Michael and Daniel David Charlton of Alton, and his brother, James (Phyllis) Charlton of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
David is predeceased by Elaine Totch Charlton, his faithful and loving wife of 34 years.
He is also predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Mary Charlton, his eldest brother Edward Charlton, and his sister, MaeDean Lloyd.
David was born on September 15, 1942 and grew up in Granite City, Illinois where he attended high school. David later attended Southern Illinois University, where he studied accounting. He worked as an accountant for the Hydraulic Press Brick Company for many years.
David and Elaine married in 1985. Soon after, they selflessly adopted three babies from foster care, to provide a forever and loving home. They lived together in City of St. Louis in the Frantz Park neighborhood for almost 20 years. He later lived in Pontoon Beach, Illinois and retired in Alton.
David enjoyed photography and adored his many pets. He was also a voracious reader. David will be remembered for his big heart, and willingness to do anything to help his friends, family, and community.
According to David’s wishes, his remains will be cremated and there will be no memorial services.
