Dave's obituary

David Cameron was raised in San Leandro, CA by his parents, Thelma and Donald Cameron, alongside three loving sisters Donna, Sandra and Linda. As a child, while playing with matches, he accidentally set fire to the living room curtains, which may have led to his fire department career. He played varsity football at San Leandro High where he met his future wife, Beverly, the head cheerleader.

Dave earned an A.A., Fire Science from Chabot College and a B.A., Political Science from California State University, Hayward and served in the National Guard. Joining the San Leandro Fire Department as a firefighter, he worked his way up the ranks during his 30-year career serving as engineer, captain, battalion chief and Acting Deputy Chief of Alameda County. Additionally, he taught fire safety education courses at Chabot College.

A lifelong athlete, Dave earned multiple medals with his teammates at the annual Firefighter’s Olympics in softball, badminton and bowling. He played football for the police leagues and in multiple golf tournaments, basketball and bowling leagues. Dave was a member of the 100 Club of Alameda County and volunteer coached San Leandro Crusaders’ championship football teams for 20 years.

During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends to Europe, Asia, Central America, Hawaii and the Caribbean. His favorite trips were a golfing tour of Scotland with his father and brother-in-law Donald and his many visits to Disneyland with his family. Dave’s passions included his Shih Tzu dogs, John Wayne films, fantasy football, 1950’s music, his proud Scottish heritage and cheering on the San Francisco 49ers as a season ticket holder.

In addition to his parents, Dave is predeceased by his sister Donna Munday and brothers-in-law James Munday, Donald Breitenbucher and Rick Arteaga, sister-in-law Marilyn Arteaga and parents-in-law Mildred and Howard Zangel and Jean and Howard Brown.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, daughter Kelly, son David Jr. (Stephanie), granddaughters Madison and McKenna, grandson David III, sisters Sandra Breitenbucher and Linda Hoff (Jay), sisters-in-law Barbara Miller (Donald), Becky Watson (John), Jill Jackson (Dan), brothers-in-law Kirk Brown (Jill), Jeff Brown (Carole), Scott Brown and Todd Brown.
