I am responding to an email sent a couple days ago concerning current events evoking memories of David. I attended the recent MFA opening exhibit of 'Monet to Matisse --- Impressionism to Modernism from the Bemberg Foundation' I felt the physical presence of David in the galleries. He lectured on each of these French artists in his classes with great passion and insight. He would have been at home with these paintings that he loved. I miss not seeing him. Walt Hoffmann
News of David's death has only recently reached me in NY. It is very sad news—very sad. His spirit will remain in Houston and beyond for years to come.
Thank you David, for the knowledge, perspective, and entertainment that you brought to all your classes. You made teaching art history an art in itself.
