Darrel's obituary

Darrel Lee Hawkins, resident of Augusta, KS, formerly of Burlington, KS, passed away on July 23rd at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, KS.

He was born to Leota Peryl Johnson Hawkins and Emmett Hawkins November 6th, 1942 in Westphalia, KS. Darrel was raised and schooled at Burlington, KS. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1960 then attended Emporia State Teacher College. Darrel married his childhood sweetheart, Renee Wells on February 19, 1965. From this union, were born daughter Marti, and sons Andrew and Daniel. During his life, he was the owner of Chris King Sales and Services, and a truck driver for M. Bruenger.

He enjoyed fishing, making bullwhips and knives, playing guitar, and singing. Darrel enjoyed being a member of the Augusta United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. He placed his faith in Jesus Christ and shared that faith as a Sunday School teacher, as well as attending Bible Study Fellowship, and a men's Bible Study at his church. His family has described him as a selfless man, full of wisdom, and a man who's greatest joy was his family.

He will be missed by his wife, M. Renee Hawkins, brother Jerry Kelley and wife Mary, daughter Marti King, son Andrew Hawkins and wife Martha, and son Daniel Hawkins and wife Heather. Darrel will also be missed by grandchildren, Matthew and Nathaniel King, Gavin and Dayton Hawkins, Calvin, Eli, and Kathryn Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his father Emmett Hawkins, his mother Peryl Kelley, his step-father Theodore Kelley, his father-in-law Chester Wells, his mother-in-law Doris Wells, his son-in-law Danny King, his brother-in-law Ronald Wells, and nephew Jacob Wells.

Darrel's family will be holding a Memorial Service for him in Augusta, KS at a later date for family and friends.
