Danny and I met in October of 1968 at the induction center in KC,MO…we spent the next 3 months at Fort  Leonard Wood , MO……we went through LTC before we started basic training….after completing LTC we were squad leaders during basic training…I went to Fort Ord , CA for 11B training…unfortunately I ended up in Germany assigned to the 4th Armored Division….he went to Vietnam and we stayed in touch…I’ve got a few pics he sent to me…connected with each other after we were discharged from the Military…I remember going to the lake to one of his dad’s stories….we lost contact with each other in the early 70’s…we became great friends in that short period of time…sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye!!!

Danny knew my Uncle Jim Smith. They were both Veterans. Then Danny hired me as a cashier. He was a great guy to work for. He even hooked me up with his friend   Greg who was a Pitt Boss at the Flamingo Hilton in Vegas. He gave us all kinds of comps to have a fun time there....in return Danny had me deliver a golf shirt to him. Danny cared about his employees. I work for Walmart now as a stocker...when he found that out awhile back he said don't stress over that place...I got your back ...I have friends in all the right places, I can give you a great reference. RIP Danny Kays you were my favorite boss!!

I knew  Mr. Cool back in 1965.  He went to Raytown and I went to Raytown South.  I was a closer friend to his sister Debbie but as time went on, I got know Danny.  He was a  very cool dresser. Always wore the latest threads.  He had a great work ethic.   It was the fall of 1968 when word came that Danny got drafted in the Army.  He left for basic in October 1968.  I said if they can get Kays, they can get anyone, so I called the draft board and said come get me.  I left of basic December 6,  1968.  A few months later I ran into Kays at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.  He was heading for Nam, I was still in AIT.   After we both returned to the world, got together for a few hunting trips and hang out.  On his wedding night we busted into his room and threw him into the swimming pool.  The look on his face!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would meet Danny for coffee sometimes when I returned to Kansas City to see family.   We talked of him and Jack Henry coming to the farm and have a wild weekend.  He had just got some of his firearms returned to him and he wanted to try them out again.   For one reason or another the trip never materialized.  I knew you were in a lot of pain and other battles were still in front of you but you never complained.  Now you are with your mother,  father and many of your war buddies.  Gods  speed Danny Kays.  You are finally at peace.

Met Dan in 6th grade and went all through Jr and high school together. We worked on our 50th class reunion together. Was a great friend and ran into him many times at the grocery store. RIP Dan and see you on the other side. ❤️

Danny and I were together many times working on Chamber of Commerce activities and playing golf at Hillcrest Country club. He was a good true faithful friend. He will be missed even though we were not close in recent years.
