Thank you all for your support and prayers over the last 2 years since Dad's passing.  We appreciate you all keeping the spirit of Dan alive.  We are also grateful for the generous contributions that were made to his memorial Scholarship.  With these contributions, we will be able to provide educational scholarships for many years to the youth of Elbert County, Colorado.  Love to all.

Luke Schnell

My heart goes out to my friend, Pris as she grieves the loss of her dear husband.   I pray that she can find peace in her heart knowing that he is with our Lord Jesus Christ as he promises his believers.

Spiral Staircase Design by Da…
1997, Lauray Studio, Suffield, Connecticut.
Spiral Staircase Design by Daniel Schnell. Dan truly was a “Renaissance man." Artist, sculptor, engineer, architect, educator. A Contemporary Master who was reserved, modest, and devoted. He attributed all of his success to God, his faith in Lord Jesus - and not to himself. Every idea or dream in his mind that he manifested into reality was inspired. He was so non-stop prolific and productive that his lifetime body of work is in fact Super Human. One couldn’t praise him in this manner to his face. One could only thank him and tell him how much his mentoring and sincereity meant. We found an opportunity to emulate what Dan & Priscilla had done designing and building their home. As a teenager I’d lent a hand as they collected and stockpiled all manner of building materials. A lot of it came from demolition sites. “[Dan smiling] One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” Our plan was do do the same thing. Besides the experience of having apprenticed with him, the greatest asset of our Studio project was that Uncle Dan was my tireless resource for encouragement and technical support. When it came time to build a staircase, what was just a matter-of-fact endeavor to him appeared to me like trying to go around the world in a row boat. He asked; “Well you recall… you were there helping me do one of those …remember?” I confessed that I hadn’t really paid all that much attention at the time. “So you have your material – good. What you wanna do now is build yourself a kit – then ya just put it together.” That one sentence instantly helped allay a terrible angst! “You calculate the rise to figure the number of steps. Those steps are comprised of a riser and a tread. You’ll also need [this, and this, and that, etc.] plus it gets built from the top down… “ With that my row boat suddenly had a sail, a rudder, and a compass. “Draw it first and send me the plans.” After getting that together he said; “Good, OK - now build yourself a 1/16 scale model of it.” Once he approved that, I began building and he followed the progress. It was the most complicated, and difficult thing I had ever done, EVER! Over the phone, my genius Master guided me through the complex logic of it step by step. Auntie Priscilla provided a calm reassurance that I could in fact, through my faith accomplish it. “Sure thing…Hey, WE did it!” The winding handrail was the final part. Me: Yeah OK uncle, it’s lookin’ good and solid - BUT IT’S WOBBLY!! “(Dan laughing) …No, that’s only because the handrail is what ties the whole thing together - You’ll see - it’ll be rock steady!” (This last part required another separate set of complex steps!) His brilliant design became exemplified through my hands from 2000 miles away! About a year after it was finished He and Priscilla visited New England. They were so, so proud of me; but it really only happened because of them, and their faith in me. I can only imagine the thousands of students my aunt and uncle have influenced in their careers as Educators - the self confidence, self respect, and the inspirations they fostered. This legacy lives on in us all and there just aren’t any words to fully express the the gracious gifts of generosity AND the state of well being Dan has left us in. ⭐️ Say “A M E N !” somebody!

It’s quiet in the company my heart once knew, because of that irreplaceable space that family once filled. Today we celebrated your life and cherished the invaluable moments we were blessed to have with you Uncle Dan. And it’s in those tenderly felt memories that remind me of what was - And is to come - For all eternity!

Rest in peace now, our classmate and friend. I sure enjoyed our talks and especially you being here to visit. Memories to keep in our hearts. Ron Lingbeck and Deb

Our deepest condolences to the Schnell family.

My consolation is that we will meet again. Our faith assures us of that. Until we then, we will miss you dearly.  We love you.

1972, Schnell Ranch - Elizabeth Colorado
In the early 70's, Dan & I spent many long working days, or were on long drives up to where we could cut dead standing Aspen trees for long straight logs. He made a joke about how the hours we were out went "from can't see - to can't see!" He was a great conversationalist, and a good listener. We discussed Art and Artists, and shared some wonderful philosophical debates. Having a philosophy about life, etc., rubbed off on me at that time. I asked him about his youth and school days in Lake Country, Ramona, South Dakota. He wasn't much of a sports guy, but messed around with Hot Rods - "…We machined the cylinder heads and pistons in the motor of an ole '39 Buick -and that would give us maybe 40 more horse power!" He would never pick a fight, but boy if trouble came at him - look out! "What I lacked in height I made up for with speed." and with his wily smile " Yep, dynamite comes in small packages." I got him to tell me what happened: "Well there was Jeannette - a pretty little gal with auburn hair that turned heads. In those times if a guy took a fancy to someone. he would just announce 'she's gonna be MY girl' (regardless of what the girl thought) but it was to warn off anyone else from pursuing her. Well she smiled at me, and long , tall Jim Sneed walks up and knocks my hat off…" Me: …So whad-ja do? "Well that kind swipe isn't exactly like the first punch, but it's a li'l to close to home so I puffed up and stood my ground. Me: Yeah, then what?! "Well lets just say it was ME who bought Jeanette’s ice cream sundae!" ⭐️ You Shine Uncle Dan! ⚡️Thank you for being the best partner a guy ever had! 💜

Dear Schnells one and all,

Our hearts are broken for you. Dan was the best of the best. We remember him as a quiet, humble, patient, gentle man who could do (and did do) everything. He was a creative designer, a skilled builder, and  caring in animal husbandry. He was the loving father of our dear Maria, and superb grandfather to our shared granddaughters Lennox and  Angel Desi. We are richer for having him in our lives.

1972, Elizabeth, Colorado
My own father rescued me and saved my life when I was 5 years old plus his Marine Corp style training gave me grit & survival skills, but it was my beloved Uncle Dan that took a troubled 15 year old kid under his wing in 1969, and continuously set an example for me over all these years. ⚡️ "If you have dreams - CAN IMAGINE what you want to do, and work hard for those goals ~ you'll get there!" I owe All that I am as a person; for having tried to follow in his footsteps and his advice, to Him. Here's an images of the "boss" and me in 1972 - we stretched miles of his fences! We burned our shadows into the high plains grass - and all through the miles of life later in 2022, there was a few repairs and truly still more mentoring shared with me. Thanks Dan, I love you forever. ⭐️
