I was Dan's step mother for 11 years. I loved Dan and felt like he was a son to me and a big brother to my son Sean Huber

I met Dan through the AFK gaming store, and he was going to show me how to play Flames of War. I got more than I bargained for because Dan was truly an exceptional human being. He guided me on how to build tanks and paint soldiers. He also mentioned to me that he had been in the Marines. I'm fairly dubious when someone tells me that they have been in the service, but rather quickly realized he really had been a Marine. As per the rest of his Life, he walked the walk and talked the talk. The things he described and the way that he said them, you knew he had been the real thing. But.....he didn't brag and he didn't claim to be a Hero. He had just served his country the best way he knew how. He actually didn't brag about anything. He was fairly modest and matter-of-fact about things. He talked to me about his FOW contests, his dog training, his BBQ, and a whole bunch of history and life insights. He worked at the local foodbank and said we have to work with and give back to the community. Again, being a soldier and doing one's duty. He was very interesting and knew a lot about the world. I liked the way he talked of one friend with conspiracy theories and Dan said'........I talked him off that ledge!!!' I just broke up laughing. A month after we met is when he told me his circumstances. I told him we can talk about anything at any time even though I may not have been the first choice to call. Sometimes feelings and thoughts come from nowhere, and people need to talk. I find myself now a little confused and lost because for the past week I have kept thinking "When I see Dan I have to ask...........Oh, yeah. When we get together tomorrow, I have to share this.........Oh, yeah. Dan, what did you mean when you said........Oh, yeah.' I miss him and believe that he is in the hereafter running with his dogs, BBQ'ing, and helping others all around him.. Rest in Peace, Good Friend.

Dan the man! He was my first Boss. But he was more than that to me. My father and I both looked up to Dan, he always had a way to make work enjoyable too. He will always have a space in my heart, and will be in my thoughts and damn could he cook some meat. Im sad I won't get to thank him as much as he deserves for being so great.
