Best band director on Earth! Have always missed him since graduating. I hope he is happy and at peace in Heaven.

Dan was a lifelong friend. He is missed by many people in so many ways. My condolences to Anna, Emily, and Rhonda on what would have been Danny's 73rd birthday. Take comfort in the great times everyone had with him during his life.

Thinking of you and your family on this one year anniversary of you leaving this world. You are thought of often with great memories.

Can’t believe it’s been a year. Dan made everyone’s lives better and certainly more fun! Jim Doepke, a fellow music educator

Anna, Emily, and Rhonda, you have my deepest condolences. I have so many wonderful memories of Mr. Petersen (as we got older, he said we could call him Dan but it didn’t feel right!). I remember him taking Emily and I to dance class in the little white “zoombada” Honda and then later the many road trips in the van (complete with mini tv to watch movies?!) to South Carolina and Up North.
I will forever remember his lively spirit and the pure JOY he got from being involved in music, and especially in Emily & Anna’s music. I’m thankful for all of the years I got to get to know him through our families being friends, and then in marching band in high school.
Love to you all… rest in peace Mr. Petersen.

Mr. P was my neighbor most my childhood and father to my best friend. As kids, I frequently walked to school and played in the neighborhood. Even as a small child, Mr P always made sure to greet me with a huge smile and a wave while he tended to his roses and yard (always sporting the Fanny Pack). I’d show up frequently unannounced at the front door and he was always so warm and genuinely welcoming to me my entire life. As an adult, I will always appreciate that sense of belonging he created for me at his home. Hugs to your family!

In the summer of 1972 Dan and I were both living in Madison. We both were hired to play trumpet at the wedding of two graduate music students down on the capitol square. The temperature was at least 90 and the church was not air conditioned. Due to the nature of the denomination we were required to wear these heavy wool cassocks as part of the ceremony. We had to rehearse before the wedding, and then we had a break. Forever etched in my memory is Dan sitting outside the church in his cassock smoking a cigarette. The wedding photographer even took a photo of him. That was classic Dan in his younger days. Good times! He was a lifelong friend, music colleague, and we both raised our families together. Rest in piece my friend.
