Daniel's obituary
Daniel Jon Kaskie, 51, passed peacefully at home on April 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
Daniel was born on September 27, 1974, in Forest, Mississippi, to Donald and Patricia Kaskie, the youngest of eight children.
He grew up attending St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was active in his faith from an early age and served as an altar server for many years. In high school, Daniel was a scholar, athlete, and musician. He played basketball and tennis for the Forest Bearcats and performed as a trombonist in the marching band.
He went on to study and play tennis at Jones County Junior College, continued his education at Louisiana State University, and ultimately earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix while building his career. Daniel dedicated nearly 27 years to Sysco Corporation in Houston, Texas, where he became affectionately known as the “Mayor.” He was deeply respected and loved by his colleagues and was always a trusted resource with a remarkable depth of knowledge.
In 2001, Daniel met Alicia, and they quickly became inseparable. They were married in May 2005 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Their life together was marked by deep love, partnership, and an unwavering commitment to one another. Daniel's love for Alicia could easily be summed up by a few lyrics in the Beatles song, "Here, There and Everywhere", which was also the first dance with Alicia at their wedding reception just shy of 21 years ago.
"Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
I will be there
And everywhere
Here, there and everywhere".
Daniel was a man of faith, a godfather to several, and a friend to all. He had a deep appreciation for music, for the unique talents in others, and for all things LSU Tigers, especially football.
He was a prolific storyteller, always with a point, but taking his time to get there in his classic Mississippi style. He often quoted song lyrics in those stories or conversations and had a gift for offering thoughtful perspective.
At 6 foot 6 inches, Daniel was larger than life, not only in stature but in spirit. He was witty, full of empathy and compassion, and intentional about spending time with friends and family, always seeking connection and common ground.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Alicia Kaskie of Richmond, Texas; two brothers and three sisters, Michael (Chanda) Kaskie of Atoka, Tennessee; Kathleen Risher of Houston, Texas; Mark Kaskie of Forest, Mississippi; Julianne France of Houston, Texas; and Kristin (Al) Hagan of Troup, Texas; as well as six nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Pat; and his brothers, Steve and Father Brian.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Daniel’s memory to the Kidney Cancer Association.
