Dana's obituary

Dana L. Reed Jr., age 94, of Greentown, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022, at the Delaware Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Matamoras, Pennsylvania. Mr. Reed was predeceased by his parents Dana L. Reed, Sr. and Viola Holland Reed. His brothers Robert and Thomas also preceded him in death. He leaves his loving wife of 31 years, Wilma June (“June”) Barry Lechtanski Reed, his three sons Dana L. Reed III, Martin A. Reed, and Christopher E. Reed and partner Tina Chiang, all of New Jersey. Mr. Reed is also survived by his former wife, Ann K. Dworkin Reed and his two step-children, Joseph (Donna) Lechtanski of Flemington, NJ, Ann Lechtanski Smith of Westerly, Rhode Island as well as his beloved step-granddaughter, Susan Ann Lechtanski of State College, PA. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his stepson, Peter Lechtanski and is survived by four other step-grandchildren, Scott (Lindsay) Lechtanski and Lauren (Craig) MacDonald of Illinois and Adam and Robert Smith of Rhode Island. He also leaves his step-daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann Lechtanski of Illinois. Dana will be sadly missed by his five grand grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Paterson, NJ, Mr. Reed spent his early years in Flushing Meadows, Queens before he and his family settled in Haworth, NJ where he spent most of his youth. He finished high school at the top of his class and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from New York University. Mr. Reed served in the United States Army where he suffered a life-threatening injury that caused a permanent partial disability of his left leg. Nevertheless, by adhering to a lifetime routine of vigorous physical conditioning, Dana participated in many sports including deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snow-skiing, and water-skiing.

He worked for a number of years as an engineer for Electricon in New Jersey before establishing his own successful company, Reed Electric Corporation, which he operated until 2001 when he retired to Pennsylvania with his wife June. Mr. Reed was active in his local investors club and maintained a membership in a local fishing and recreation club for many years. Mr. Reed’s family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, May 21 from 11 AM to1 PM at the FreyFetsock Funeral Home in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania. A graveside service will follow at a later date at the George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the veterans group of one’s choice.
