إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

(Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un - "We are from God, and to Him is our return")

Dana Hamad,  beloved wife of Usama Abdelkarim, daughter of Jerry & Emann Hamad, sister of Nadia Hamad, and a Virginia Tech Class of 2023 alumna, was a dear friend to so many. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Dana experienced her deep empathy, passion, and unwavering commitment to serving those in need. She stood for justice and equity, especially for Palestine, the homeland so close to her and her family’s hearts. Dana’s love for her community was not only reflected in her words but in her actions.

She dedicated herself to serving others as a Sunday school teacher at her local mosque in both Blacksburg and Fairfax, Virginia, where she spread her love of Islam to the youth. She was also a devoted board member and leader of AMV (Association of Muslim Volunteers), where she supported humanitarian efforts by organizing meal packs, donation drives, and fundraising. Dana served as a founding member and president of SPJP (Students for Peace and Justice in Palestine) at Virginia Tech, where she amplified the voices of her own community.

Beyond all of her accomplishments, Dana was a beautiful friend and a source of strength and comfort to those around her. She was a precious daughter, a loving sister, and a wonderful wife. Dana was truly a pillar in her community, and her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. We ask for your support in helping ensure that her legacy is never forgotten through this Sadaqah Jariyah.

In Dana’s name, we will be donating wheelchairs for use during Umrah, easing Makkah visitation, and once the 10,000 goal is passed, any additional money will be directed towards Palestinian aid. Dana always spoke of her dream of visiting Makkah and her deep-rooted love for Islam. May Allah grant her the reward of every Umrah and Hajj facilitated through each wheelchair donated in her name. O Allah, make this wheelchair a perpetual charity, a light in the grave of Dana Hamad, multiply the reward for her for every person who benefits from it during Tawaf or Sa'y, and let it serve as an intercessor for her on the Day of Judgment.

Ya Allah, illuminate Dana’s grave with light and grant her a place among the righteous in Jannatul Firdaus. Ease her questioning and accept all of her efforts and good deeds. Ya Rabb, accept this sadaqah as a source of continuous reward for her. Grant her loved ones patience, strength, and comfort, and reunite them with her in the highest level of Jannah. Ameen.
