Daliah's obituary
Born on February 4, 1960 in St. Vincent, she was the only girl of five children born to Mazeline Ralph and Leon John. Due to the early passing of her mother, Kareitha, affectionately known to her loved ones as ‘Kay’, spent the early years of her youth in Dominica before returning to St. Vincent to be raised by her eldest brother, Verald. Verald ran a tight ship incompatible with Kay’s adventurous spirit, which motivated her to choose her young career as a customs officer where she traveled across the Caribbean and acquired her legendary love for fashion.
By the mid-80s, Kay would take her most adventurous leap yet and move to the United States without any immediate family. It was in Brooklyn that she was reunited with countless cousins, began her 30-year career as a city employee of NY, volunteered her time with the Caribbean America Cultural Group (CACG) and built a life with her two girls, Tamar and Chezney.
A busy work and home life never kept her from her true passion, retail therapy! Kay loved a great deal and could calculate a markdown in seconds! She was a fierce competitor and although shopping was her sport, it was what she did with her purchases that made her special. Kay showered her family and friends with gifts: always ‘packing a barrel’ to send clothes and supplies to her nieces, nephews, and family in St. Vincent, finding unique dresses for the young women she mentored in the CACG pageant, and making sure her daughters and grandchildren never went without anything.
If shopping was her first love, traveling was a close second—Kay loved a cruise. She recently completed trips to Alaska, London, Cozumel, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, and several other remarkable destinations.
She will be remembered for her radiant smile, strong will, sharp wit, and her indisputable, reigning title as the best Chinese Checkers player ever. But, the titles she relished most was that of Mommy, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend. She is survived by her three brothers: Glenford, Dougie, and Junior, her two daughters: Tamar and Chezney, and her grandchildren: London and Dashiell.
