Cy's obituary
We are saddened to share that Cyril Donald Brown has peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 22nd, 2023 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cy valiantly fought a year long medical battle, never giving up hope and keeping his spirits bright right up until Jesus called him home to free him of his earthly pain.
Cy was 46 years old, born March 13th, 1977 in Joliet, Illinois. He was a graduate of Joliet Central High School (class of 1995) and a resident of the Joliet area until relocating to Treasure Island, Florida in 2012. In Illinois Cy was a long-time employee of Jewel-Osco and a volunteer at the Shorewood Fire Department and the Will County Humane Society. Cy always said that moving to Florida was the best thing that ever happened to him and he embraced all of the new opportunities it brought his way. In Florida he was a dedicated volunteer at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the Bay Pines Veterans Hospital and the Sanding Ovations event security team. He was also an active member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard and the American Legion, where he was a member of the Honor Guard. He took great pride in his many roles and shined his brightest while passionately supporting these causes.
Cy was an avid fisherman, loving to fish from the dock in his backyard and stinking up his Mom's freezer with bait fish. He was a loyal Tampa Bay Rays fan and frequently attended their games, forever hopeful they would win the World Series. Cy also recently rose to local stardom after his shining performances in a local karaoke competition.
Cy is preceded in death by his father, Stephen G. Brown; his maternal grandparents, Leo and Rosemary Kurtenbach; his paternal grandparents, Cyril and Elizabeth Smutnak; his aunts, Cheryl Lane, Judith Brown, and Donna Brown; his uncles, Joe Brongiel, Everett Lane, Darryl Kurtenbach, Michael Brown, and Robert Brown; and his cousins, Kyle Kosiba and Celeste Brown.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Kenda S. Brown; his sister and brother-in-law, Jillian and Chris Hopkins; his niece and nephew, Harper and Blake Hopkins; his dog, Stash; his close friend, Debby Naughton; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
As per Cy's wishes, there will be no wake or funeral service. He wanted people to remember him at his best and cherish the good times.
