Cynthia's obituary
Cynthia Huntington Newcomb, age 67, passed away on August 29, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia.
She was born on July 26, 1958, in Hartford, Connecticut, and was raised in Windsor, Connecticut. As a teenager, she met John while working at a local bank, and they were wed in 1978. They continued to live in Windsor while they built their family, which grew to include three children. In the mid-1990s, she and John moved the family to the Farmington Valley area, where she lived until 2009. She then spent 15 years in Florida before relocating to Richmond, Virginia, in 2024.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Daniel Newcomb, and her parents, Sidney and Helen Huntington. She is survived by her children, Jessica (Richard), Eli (Elizabeth), and Vicente (Linh) Newcomb; her grandchildren, Penelope, Isla, Emma, Theodore, and Luis; and her sisters, Sharron Mund (Bill) and Pamela Brown (Marc).
An avid gardener and artist, Cynthia operated her own floral design business for many years. She had a lifelong love of the arts and enjoyed various mediums of the visual arts such as painting and creating with fused glass. Always a gracious hostess, she loved to cook and entertain her friends and family. In her later years, she enjoyed several trips abroad where she was able to visit much of the art in which she found inspiration. She found peace and joy near the ocean and held a special fondness for animals—especially dogs, and cats. Above all, she deeply loved her family and treasured the time she shared with them.
In place of a traditional service, a tribute website has been created for friends and loved ones to share memories, photos, and videos in her honor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Audubon Society or National Public Radio in her memory.
