Cynthia's obituary
Cynthia “CT” Thompson McCaleb, MD, born October 19, 1955, embarked on her final journey the day after Easter, April 1st, 2024. Cynthia, a beacon of strength and resilience, devoted her life to healing, family, and faith.
Born and raised amidst the sun-kissed orange groves of Winter Haven, Florida, Cynthia's childhood was woven with the joys of nature and the thrill of water skiing on Polk County’s “Chain of Lakes” and Cypress Gardens. Her pursuit of knowledge led her through so many academic achievements, but her heart and mind yearned for the healing touch of medicine.
In 1984, Cynthia embraced God's call in marriage with Blaine McCaleb, III, initiating a journey filled with love, adventure, and shared dreams. Together, they nurtured two sons, Blaine IV and Hamilton, shaping a legacy of love and dedication.
Despite the challenges of life, Cynthia's unwavering determination saw her realize her lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor. Against all odds, she secured acceptance to Emory University School of Medicine at the age of forty, then graduating in 1999 as the oldest woman to accomplish such a feat at the time. Her compassion knew no bounds, reflected in the personalized care she provided to her patients in her own Internal Medicine practice in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood. Cynthia’s love, compassion, and expertise in medicine took her around the world on rescue missions as a flight doctor with Phoenix Air, disaster relief services including the 2004 Indonesia earthquake, and other medical aid mobilizations with Red Cross, Red Crescent, and more NGOs.
In 2014, Cynthia and her beloved husband faced their own harrowing trial in a near-fatal plane crash, which left her with severe injuries and chronic pain. Undeterred, she confronted adversity with grace, continuing to cherish life's precious moments alongside her beloved family.
As a devoted mother, Cynthia rejoiced in the milestones of her sons, witnessing each of their marriages and the birth of her beloved grandchildren, Parker Gene McCaleb and baby Addison Lorelai McCaleb. Her love for water and snow skiing, art, and sailing illuminated her vibrant spirit, while her steadfast faith in Jesus provided solace and guidance.
Cynthia Thompson McCaleb, MD, leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and love. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her healing hands and compassionate heart. Though she may have bid farewell to this world, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
