Cynthia Lou's obituary

Cynthia Parker Sands

63 years old

01/07/1955 - 10/17/2018

Grand Junction, CO

Cynthia (Cindy) Lou Parker Sands, age 63, went to be with Jesus on 10/17/2018 at Hope West Hospice in Grand Junction, CO after a courageous 2 year battle with ALS. Cindy was born in Columbia, SC to Ernest and Mary Parker, and had two siblings, a brother Ernest Jr. (Bubba), and a sister Marcia who she was very close too. The family soon relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where Cindy attended elementary through high school.

Cindy was an adventurer, a lover of the outdoors, nature, and animals, and always had cats or dogs throughout her life. In Jacksonville, Cindy fell in love with the beach and ocean. After graduating high school she found herself adventuring off to the Bahamas where she spent several years. Those years found her diving, snorkeling, and beach combing the islands. Eventually Cindy relocated near her family in the High Rock Lake area of North Carolina where she began working in real estate and became a beloved member of the community. Cindy’s infectious authenticity and care for those she met made her a valued friend. She cared for and deeply loved her Mother, sister and brother.

While in North Carolina a high school sweetheart who always wondered where she ended up, came knocking one day. Chip soon swept her off her feet for a life out West. Chip and Cindy married and settled in the small mountain town of Eden, UT., where they enjoyed, hiking, four wheeling, fishing and exploring. Cindy had gone back to school to become a radiology technician, and began working and caring for patients in the Ogden, Utah area where she was passionate about providing a high level of patient care.

Prior to her diagnosis of ALS, Cindy and Chip purchased an RV with plans to travel and explore upon retirement. The two adventured for several months, exploring the West and spending time with her extended family in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. Her nephews Brian and Corey and their families, Karen (Brian) and Julie (Corey) and her nieces Alison and Libby loved spending time with her, and she absolutely adored her nieces. Cindy was also very close to her dear Aunt Eilene and cousin Larry who were a big part of her life from childhood through adulthood.

Cindy and Chip worked their way back West and settled in Grand Junction, CO where Chip’s family became Cindy’s family. Her stepdaughter, son-in law, and grandbabies became a big part of her life. Through her affliction of ALS, Cindy became an example for all those who encountered her. She persevered with such grace and humility, never complaining and always looking on the sunnyside of life. Her faith and relationship with Jesus carried her home. We thank our Father in Heaven for blessing us with her love and presence, and the comfort knowing that she is with Him in His care!

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Mary Parker, brother Ernest Jr. (Bubba), and sister Marcia. She is survived by her husband Chip Sands, stepson Ted Sands, stepdaughter Jessica (Kyle) Bishop, granddaughters Kaylee and Kinsley, nephew Corey (Julie) Gaston, nephew Brian Hall (Karen), and great nieces Alison and Libby.

In honor of Cindy, please take time to enjoy the outdoors, God’s Creation, and pursue your dreams while always listening to the still small voice that calls your name.

A celebration of life is in the works. For information please contact Corey Gaston at corey@sonosession.com or call 831-595-2112.
