Cynthia's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cynthia Banks, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on March 1, 1956, Cynthia lived a life full of love, joy, and accomplishment before her peaceful departure on March 23, 2026.
Cynthia was revered for her outgoing and friendly personality. Her ability to embrace life to its fullest was a testament to her bold character. She brought joy with what some would call her idiosyncratic points of view, infectious laughter, and vibrant spirit.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Cynthia lived with her grandparents, Cubia and Inez Banks, until she and her older sister, Laverne, moved with their mother, Ernestine Banks, to the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, in 1961. In the early 1970s, the entire family moved to California, where Cynthia’s resilient spirit saw her graduating from Menlo-Atherton High School in 1974.
In 1976, Cynthia's world was further filled with joy when she had her daughter, Sheila. Cynthia's family was the cornerstone of her life, and her wisdom to "love your family" continues to resonate within their hearts today.
Cynthia was extremely hardworking, defined by an unmatched work ethic and widely respected for her unwavering professionalism. While pregnant with Sheila, she worked tirelessly as a nurse's assistant in a convalescent hospital. Her career continued to flourish as she spent 13 years as an Executive Administrative Assistant at HP, where she was held in high regard for her dedication and poise. She later achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving her certified medical assistant degree in the early 2000s.
During her downtime, she loved listening to music and watching movies. She had an undeniable love and appreciation for music, with her favorites being Smokey Robinson, Teddy Pendergrass, Kenny G., Luther Vandross, and Jaheim. She enjoyed watching a variety of TV shows, from Bewitched, I Love Lucy, and Charmed to Bones, Rizzoli & Isles, RuPaul's Drag Race, Snapped, and For My Man. A proud supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, she was also a fan of visiting the casino and playing the slot machines.
Her legacy of generosity and welcoming nature will forever be remembered. Cynthia had a special place in her heart for causes like Breast Cancer Awareness, reflecting her compassionate spirit. While she loved the finer things in life, she took equal pleasure in simple joys—like spending time with her daughter and granddaughter dancing in the living room, or sipping on Pinot Grigio with family and friends over lunch or dinner.
Although she and Elliot went on many trips and excursions together, her lifelong dream was to visit Paris. That dream came true in 2017 when she and Elliot embarked on a month-long trip to Europe; Paris, the city of love and art, served as her favorite of all her vacations.
Her departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. However, her vibrant spirit continues to live on through her family and the countless lives she touched. Cynthia Banks will be missed immensely, but her legacy lives on, reminding us all to embrace life with a generous heart, a warm and welcoming spirit, and unwavering confidence.
Surviving Cynthia is her husband, Elliot Nadel; her dear daughter, Sheila Lyon, and son-in-law, Eric Lyon Sr.; and her cherished grandchildren, Isis Banks David and Eric Lyon Jr. Cynthia also leaves behind her siblings: Brenda Bryan, Michael Norman, H.K. Norman, and Tywana Norman; and her nieces, Brittney and Brianna Bryan. She is predeceased by her sister, Laverne Banks; her daughter, Khrystina Shante; and many other beloved members of the Banks family.
