Rhonda Parris- My condolences go out to my dear friend Marcela and family. Your father was truly a kind and wonderful person. I had always admired his evenhanded nature and calm demeanor. Not only was he a great family man, but a true and dedicated friend throughout the years. Take comfort in knowing that he was happy surrounded by his family. Although he will be missed, there will always be treasured memories of “Poppy”.❤️
Uncle Bert is a huge part of my childhood. He is the kindest, honest, and most dependable person I know. His mother in law, my Abuela , lived with him and Aunt Iris and my family would drive from New Jersey to Babylon almost every Sunday. It was a wonderful day of family, a day of cooking which translated to great food, playing with my cousins, and my Dad and Uncle Bert watching the NY Giants. What I so vividly remember about the football watching is that Uncle Bert never sat back, relaxed, feet up. He sat on the edge of his chair with a straight back, engaged for the entire game. And there was always a lot of cheering and moaning! But if Aunt Iris or Abuela needed anything Uncle Bert got up from the game and took care of whatever they were asking of him. Keep in mind we did not have any pause or rewind capabilities back then. That’s the kind of man he was. He was also very soft spoken. That is until us kids worked his last nerve. That only came after many times of him kindly telling us to stop, or quiet down, or slow down. Once he had enough that voice of his got so deep and loud I swear the house shook, as well as did all of us kids. It stopped us in our tracks and needless to say we changed our ways, at least for a short period of time! My wonderful childhood memories were made that much more special because of Uncle Bert being such a big part of them. I will miss him. I feel happy because I know he is proud of the family he created and the legacy he is leaving. I feel fortunate that he was with us for 95 years and led a full, joyous life surrounded by so many who loved him. I feel special to have been able to learn from him and to have been touched by his love and kindness, and wonderful sense of humor. My Dad and brother Tony and many others will be so happy to see you. I will never forget you.
For as long as can remember my Uncle Bert, he was the most genuine man I’ve ever known. His smile lit up a room and his laugh would make you laugh. He was very laid back until his sports teams were playing, especially his Giants. LOL! He was a man who cared about his family and friends. I can say that Uncle Bert lived his 95 years to the fullest and was so very proud of his daughters, Marcela and Lisa, grandkids, Joseph, Adriana and Armando and he was thrilled when his twin great grands were born, Myles and Taya. Uncle Bert, you will be missed many, but NEVER forgotten. I love you and will you always R.I.P. ❤️
