Curtis's obituary

Curtis Arch Murray, Sr. was born on July 13, 1923 in Iola, Texas. He lived in Iola, Pt. Arthur, Houston, and Tyler before moving to La Porte in June of 1969. Curtis passed away on January 3, 2017 at the age of 93. He is preceeded in death by his parents, Arch Allen Murray and Elizabeth Polk Murray, and his son, Curtis Arch Murray, Jr.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Ruth Strickland Murray; his daughter, Sue Allison Murray Barksdale and husband, Russ; his three grandchildren, Ben and his wife Lauren Barksdale, Brittany and her husband, Clint Scott, and Bradley and his wife Stephanie Barksdale. Curtis had eight great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Evie, Ainslie, Liam, Moses, Berkley, and Lacey.

Curtis was a 1940 graduate of Iola High School and later attended the University of Houston. He served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in April of 1947. Curtis was employed for over 30 years by Cook Paint and Varnish Company. After retiring, he worked for the Pasadena I.S.D.

Curtis was a member of Southmore Church of God (Parkgate Community Church.). He was a member of the Rotary Club International, a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner. He volunteered with the Pasadena Library as a tax preparation consultant.
