Curtis's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Curtis Lowrie, who was born on August 24, 1943, and passed away on January 9, 2024. A vibrant and outgoing soul, Curtis lived his life to the fullest and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Curtis is survived by his devoted partner, Melinda Ortega. He was predeceased by his father, Curtis Gaston Lowrie, and his mother, Deana Lowrie-Wooldridge. While Curtis will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A man with diverse interests, Curtis had an insatiable appetite for life. He loved Chicken fried steak, Sunday afternoon Roast, Reese’s peanut butter cups and Hershey’s candy bars. His favorite drinks were Dr. Pepper and Coke. He was an avid reader with a fondness for books about the Vietnam War, the Civil War and encyclopedic works. As a drummer for over 20 years, he had a deep passion for music. He also had a love for the art of crime-solving shows and found beauty in anything with bright colors.

A true Texan at heart, Curtis was a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers Baseball Team. He relished performances by the O’ Jays, and spending time with friends was one of his favorite pastimes. Always cheerful, Curtis was often found at his favorite local hangout, the Hide Away Sports Bar. He cared deeply for animals and supported causes like the ASPCA. Bright Orange was his favorite color, a reflection of his lively personality.

Curtis was described by all who knew him as very friendly, outgoing, free-spirited, and loyal. He urged everyone around him to "Live life Loud to the fullest!" A talented percussionist, one of his proudest accomplishments was playing for a local band. His legacy of kindness, respectability, and loyalty continues to inspire all who knew him. Indeed, Curtis was more than just a man; he was a legend.

As we mourn the loss of our beloved Curtis, we also celebrate his remarkable life. To Curtis, every beach was a vacation spot and he loved them all. He was not just a friend, but a source of inspiration for many. Today, as we bid farewell, we imagine Curtis soaring like an eagle, free and unbridled. The legend Curtis Lowrie will be missed by everyone that knew him. Until we meet again, dear friend, we love you!
