Obituary for Craig A. Vejtasa
June 24, 1963 — May 11, 2019
Craig D. Vejtasa, 55, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019, surrounded by family. Craig was formerly of Adams, North Dakota.
Craig was born June 24, 1963, to Don Vejtasa and Elizabeth (Sharon) Gunville. He entered the world alongside his twin brother, Kevin — born just seven minutes apart — beginning a lifelong partnership that was double the mischief, double the laughter, and double the love. From doing handstands on their skateboards to speaking in their own “secret language,” the two shared a bond that was unmistakable and unbreakable.
Craig shared many of the same passions as Kevin. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he found peace in the quiet of the fields and the water. Some of his happiest memories were taking his son, Dalton, and his nieces and nephews out to the farm to go fishing and to visit Grandpa’s sheep and pick raspberries. Those simple moments became cherished traditions that shaped a generation of kids who adored him.
Craig was the most loving person. He had a gentle heart, a warm presence, and a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. He loved to laugh, to tell stories, and to spend time with the people who mattered most to him. His kindness was steady, his loyalty unwavering, and his love for his family ran deep.
He held close friendships that lasted decades, and he treasured the people who walked through life with him. Whether sharing a quiet conversation, a good joke, or a day outdoors, Craig made every moment feel meaningful.
Craig is survived by his daughter, Kayla, son, Dalton Vejtasa; his grandchildren Addison and Remington Vejtasa; his mother Elizabeth (Sharon) Gunville; his sisters Tracie and Sherry Chapman; his aunt Gloria Brevik; his cousins Tammy Tate, Brandy & Aaron Oullette; and his many beloved nieces and nephews along with the many children they have brought into the world, a new generation Craig loved watching grow.
Craig loved all his nieces and nephews deeply, every single one. He celebrated their milestones, bragged about their accomplishments, and held each of them close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his son Josh Vejtasa, his father Don Vejtasa; his sister Jeannie Chapman; and his nephew Keith Chapman.
