Costella's obituary
Costella Tate, 83, went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1940, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Joseph and Carrie Daniels. Cos, as she was affectionately known, was an amazing mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and confidant to so many. She always had a kind smile and was selfless in her devotion to her family, friends, and dedication to Christ.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Jenine Jones, her son Raymond Tate, Jr., her granddaughters Brittany Dean, Nicole Butler, Jasmine Hill, Monique Watkins, her grandson Jordan Tate, and her great-grandson Giovanni Dean. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Costella achieved an undergraduate degree from Lincoln University and a graduate degree from the University of Kansas. She dedicated many years to her chosen profession as a Social Worker/Education Counselor with the DC Public Schools and other agencies, where she positively impacted the lives of countless students.
She worshipped at the Central Baptist Church of Camp Springs, where she created Black History activity books, assisted with writing church grants and she also served on the
Sweat-n-Go Fitness Ministry, the Seniors Ministry and the Youth Ministry, thus demonstrating her unwavering faith and commitment to serving God’s people.
In her free time, Costella enjoyed line dancing, doing research, creating curricula, walking, attending her children and grandchildren’s activities and serving the Lord.
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Central Baptist Church of Camp Springs, located at 5600 Old Branch Avenue, Camp Springs, MD 20748.
