Cornelius's obituary

It is with loving and reverent hearts for Cornelius H. Turner Jr., that our family announces his passing on October 18, 2020. He died of natural causes. Cornelius was in his 89th year. He was surrounded by his two daughters and wife as he made his transition to his heavenly home. Mr. Turner was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and established stability and longevity as a resident of his East Cleveland neighborhood.

Cornelius was born to the late Annis and Cornelius Turner Sr. in High Point, NC. He witnessed incredible changes to his world during his lifetime. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Army. Cornelius had an opportunity to attend A&T State University where he majored in English. He was also a young adult in the 1950's and 1960's as the decades-long struggle of The Civil Rights Movement called for justice and equality for African Americans.

Cornelius relocated to Cleveland, Ohio after traveling for a short time. He established himself as a skilled tradesman and entrepreneur. He opened his own plumbing business which proved to serve him and his family well. Cornelius created a stable and comfortable home base from which his children could achieve their own dreams. Cornelius was a strong-willed man who demonstrated to his family how to design their lives around what they loved. He was a hard worker and also took time to enjoy his deep appreciation for music and poetry.

Cornelius had a full life with a far-reaching network of friends and acquaintances. Most of all he loved his family (including the pets) and we knew that he would support us in every way that he thought possible.

Cornelius was the beloved father of adult daughters, Valerie Turner-Harris (Brian) and Laura Turner-Essel (AJ), committed husband of Beverly Turner, six grandchildren (and one great-grandchild on the way), and his youngest brother, Frank Turner. He is loved and remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He will be missed and never forgotten.

Cornelius was preceded in death by his two brothers, Leander and Charles.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Rittman, OH 44270 on October 29, 2020 at 12:30 pm
