Rene's obituary
Corinda Mae (Ratta) Davis, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the age of 98. Rene was loved by those whose lives she touched. Her wit, humor and compassion was exemplified in the life she led. She was the daughter of James A. Ratta and Mae Lamborghini Ratta, predeceased by her husband Ellsworth (Dave) Myron Davis. She is survived by her daughter Judith (Davis) Jewett and husband Michael of New Salem, MA, and by her son Richard M. Davis and wife Mary (D’Addabbo) Davis of Dennis, MA; her four grandchildren Elizabeth (Jewett) Silver, Brett M. Davis, Elizabeth (Davis) Szemplinski, Caroline (Davis) Lazerowich and four great grandchildren: Alex, Katie, Madison and Schuyler. She also leaves many loving and supportive friends at New Horizons in Marlborough.
Rene graduated from Coe Brown Northwood Academy and went on to attend the University of New Hampshire from 1941-1942, but left to support the war effort, working at Raytheon. She was an active Girl Scout leader in Medford, MA, and once she moved to Sudbury, MA, she became known as the "nice lady who worked in Bentley's stationary store". At the age of 58, she switched careers and went to work for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the Market Research Library for more than 10 years, earning a commemorative watch with CEO Ken Olsen’s name engraved on its back. She wore this every day, a quiet way to show her pride of her accomplishment. A highlight of her career was that she was taken by the DEC helicopter to the Nashua office.
In retirement she didn’t stop, volunteering at the Sudbury Senior Center while in her mid-80’s (not recognizing that she too, was a senior citizen) and at the local Kindergarten, as a teacher’s aide until her mid-80’s. Rather than drive to school, she walked to and from school each day along a path with students and parents. She became an active member of the All-Seasons African Violet Society, attending and working at many events at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. She was very surprised when her entry won a blue ribbon one year. She was a member of the Crescent Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Northwood, NH, for 77 years.
One of the great things about Rene was that she never had any expectations of life giving her anything other than what was in front of her. A true follower of “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” She had a dry sense of humor and didn’t miss a beat. She truly loved meeting people, engaging in the banter, and sincerely knowing and caring for those with whom she came in contact.
