Skip's obituary

Conrad Erland Bloom III, “Skip” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 23, 2021 after a prolonged illness. He was 75. Skip was born on May 11, 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Conrad Erland Bloom Jr. (Connie) and Rosalyn Rebecca Bloom, and in his early years lived in Baltimore, MD., Roslyn, NY., Acton, MA., Cupertino, San Jose and Saratoga, CA., before settling in Fremont, CA. Following his graduation from Homestead High School in Cupertino, CA in 1964, Skip enlisted in the US Navy serving in various locations, including Whidbey Island, WA, where he was in Aviation Maintenance Administration and was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal. After his enlistment was over, Skip worked for Deluxe Check Printers in Campbell, CA., as a printing press operator and then a maintenance supervisor. Following his time at Deluxe, Skip worked for another printing company, and then went into semi-retirement, working as part-time crossing guard and noontime supervisor at several different schools in Fremont.

On October 25, 1975, Skip married the love of his life, Ilene Beth Manning, and on May 9, 1977 their son, Randle Eliot Bloom (Randy) was born. Skip loved sports, especially baseball and football. He was an avid fan of the Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49er's. Skip was an amazing bowler, scoring one perfect 300 game during his life, as well as coaching Randy during his early teens. He was also a Civil War history and aviation buff, often going to local Civil War reenactments and his favorite aviation museum (it was a lifelong dream of Skip’s to become a pilot), and always with his nose in the latest Civil War book that he could find. He enjoyed annual road trips with his family to visit his parents on Camano Island, WA following their move to their retirement home there. During Randy’s childhood, Skip coached a few of Randy’s little league baseball teams, managing one of them to a league championship. He was a rabid fan of Randy’s high school football team, the Washington Huskies, never missing a game, and going as far as Pittsburg, Concord and Eureka, CA to attend games.

He is survived by his wife Ilene, his son Randy and his wife Rebecca Neimark-Bloom, brother Scott and Scott’s partner Steve Ehrlich, sister Terri, his aunt Iris Wittstein, and numerous cousins located throughout the U.S. He is predeceased by his father, mother, and his uncle, Martin Wittstein. A small memorial service will be held for Skip on September 25, 2021 in Central Park in Fremont, CA. For more information contact Randle Bloom at startwofor@live.com. In lieu of flowers or sympathy cards, the family asks that you donate in Skip’s name to one or more of the following charities: Parkinson’s Foundation, American Heart Association, or American Cancer Society.
