Connie's obituary
Our family is saddened to announce the loss of Connie Ducharme at 64 years of age. Connie passed away on January 25, 2023 at the Health Science Centre after struggling with complications post pancreatic cancer surgery.
She is survived by her sons Nick (Amanda) and Danny (Rochelle) Devigne, and her grandchildren Arthur, Daniel, Charlotte, and Oliver. She also leaves to mourn her siblings Rocky Ducharme, Jeff Ducharme, Vicki (Tom) Larocque, and brothers-in-law Chris Fenk and Hank Bibault, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Connie was predeceased by her parents, Orile "Earl" and Rita Ducharme, as well as her older sisters, Sharon Fenk and Wanda Ducharme.
Connie was born on January 2, 1959 to parents Earl and Rita in Whitemouth, Manitoba, and grew up in the municipality of Ste. Rita along Ducharme road. Connie shared a keen interest in auto-mechanics with her dad and “driving wild” with her siblings through the gravel pits in her ‘52 Chevy. After attending school in Oakbank, Manitoba she met her then-spouse, Robert “Bob” Devigne, and went on to have their two children, Nick and Danny. Connie recently shared that bringing her sons into the world “were the best chapters of her life”, expressing great pride as their mother as well as a grandmother or “Nana” to her grandchildren. Taking her family out to the country in Ste. Rita to enjoy the outdoors as she did growing-up and playing card games such as cribbage and 31 or dice were some of her favorite memories. Connie also had a unique talent to write forward and backwards with both her left and right hands seamlessly, and her sons have memories growing up with countless notebooks around the home.
For several years while raising a family, Connie ran a home-day care and later went on to work for Gateway Book Binding followed by the Royal Canadian Mint and Princess Auto. Those who knew Connie well knew of her love for the colour black, her two cats Sam and Bell, going out to Bingo, and of course Elvis Presley. A family tradition Connie carried out for holiday meals was making fried bread or “bangs”, as well as taking her children garage-saling when they were young with her mother on the weekends.
Our family respects the wishes of Connie and will be holding a private ceremony at the cemetery in Ste. Rita at a later date. Though Connie was a private person, she established meaningful relationships with close friends and family, and her loss is deeply felt.
