Connie was born on December 1, 1946 to Andrew Carver and Pauline Hogan Carver, the first of 3 daughters (Janette and Tamara born later). She was saved in her family's church: Tulare Missionary Baptist. She attended Maple and Garden Elementary Schools, Mulcahy Junior High, and Tulare Western High School (graduating in 1964). She made the honor roll, was on the student council, in the rally club, and the girls' athletic association. She then attended the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California, graduating in 1966 with a major in secretarial science. She was a letter girl in the band. After graduation, she got her dream job as a legal secretary in Fresno, California, at the Andrews, Andrews, Thaxter, Jones, & Baxter Law Firm. On June 15, 1968, she married Tracy Nelson (also from Tulare). They had a daughter, Melanie, in 1971, and a son, Brett, in 1977. In 1978, they moved to their beloved home in Madera Ranchos, Madera, California. Connie was a very patient and involved mother. She was a difference-maker in the community, organizing a childcare co-op, being PTA president, Little League team mom, and a Brownies and Cub Scout leader. Connie lit up every room, with humor and love. She loved Jesus, reading her Bible, teaching 3- and 4-year-olds in Sunday School, being a greeter, and a prayer warrior at Grace Community Church in Madera. Connie was very good with her hands, making crafts, and organizing craft shows. A natural counselor and researcher, a humble and loving friend, she helped everyone she was close to. In 1999 she became a grandma. She felt very blessed and delighted in: Kayley, Jacob, and Julia Suderman; and Emma, James, and Claire Nelson. She was a best friend and like a sister or mom to many. She lived a healthy and happy life, traveling with her husband Tracy after their retirement. The only thing that slowed her down was a diagnosis of Primary Progressive Aphasia logopenic variant dementia (with Alzheimer's as the underlying cause) in 2015. She endured it with grace and gratitude, cared for at home for the first six years. Then she moved to the amazing Rose Meadow Assisted Living Inc. in Fresno, for her final years. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family on December 18, 2024. Her family encourages donations to Rose Meadow or the Brain Support Network.
