Connie's obituary

Connie Carter, 87 years of age, passed on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Best Care Assisted Living. Connie was born on May 21, 1936 in Towson, Maryland to the late Ruth and Nathaniel Davis. Connie grew up in Towson, Maryland attending grade school and graduating from St. Francis Academy in 1954. She continued her education at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958. During her early life, her hobbies included playing basketball and singing in the choir.

Connie married the late Franklin Carter in 1958 and gave birth to two sons, Terry and Todd Carter. After the sudden death of her then husband, Connie raised her sons in Baltimore City where she worked as a police officer and parole and probation supervisor. She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she also sent her children to school. Connie lived in close vicinity to her best friends Annette Bedford and Howard Scott who she considered her sister and brother. Connie treated them and their kids like family and taught her sons to do the same creating life-long connections amongst the families.

Connie was an avid traveler and enjoyed experiencing new places with her travel group made up of her friends Angie, Sandy, Fran, Sonia, and Margie. Over the course of 30 years, they traveled to many countries including South Africa, Ethiopia, China, Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, The Caribbean Islands, and Mexico to name a few. Her favorite place to travel was The Caribbean Islands where she could soak up the sun and enjoy the food and drinks. Along her many journeys, she collected hundreds of trinkets that filled her home and sparked her many memories and family story times.

Connie was known for her strength of character, fierce independence, and her ability to show care and compassion to her friends. If there was something to say or comment about, you would likely hear it from Connie. She had an attention for details and wouldn’t miss a thing. As an only child, she learned to be independent but not to be a loner, she was gregarious. She was always there for her friends with comforting foods, warm hugs, and compassionate love, especially during trying times.

She loved to entertain friends and family and cook delicious meals for everyone. She could be competitive with her cooking, often jokingly saying that she is the best. She is the only person known to her family who would buy food from the grocery store and take it on a plane so she could cook it for her travel buddies once she arrived. You could also see her competitive spirit when she would try to out-maneuver vehicles when driving, especially buses when driving in the curb lane with ‘your’ car and not hers. We love you mom! Later in life, Connie loved attending church, playing bridge, and spending time with family and friends. Connie especially loved talking on the phone and spending a lot of time talking about “nothing”, as she would say.

Connie’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Terry and Todd Carter; daughter-in law, Karen Carter; granddaughter, Lauren Carter; beloved friends: Annette Bedford and Howard (Skeet) Scott who were like her sister and brother that she never had. She leaves a host of friends and family including the Lee Family of Jarrettsville and a cherished relationship with her caretaker and dear friend, Teresa Cook.
