Connie's obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Connie Blackmon, a vibrant beacon of warmth, humor, and unparalleled feistiness, on the 20th of January 2024. Born on the 1st of February 1955, Connie lived a life overflowing with love, laughter and an enviable rapport with her children and grandchildren.
Connie leaves behind her loving husband, Ron Blackmon, who stood by her side through every high and low. She was a cherished mother to her daughters, Anastasia Byrd, Mallory Ellis and Michelle Roberts and her late son, Cary Gibson. Her warmth radiated through her grandkids, Avery and Addison Berg and Madden and Tate Ellis.
She is survived by her siblings, Jerry, Tony, Wendell, Bonnie and David and predeceased by her brother, Milton. Her bright spirit touched the lives of her sons-in-law, Brian Roberts and Destin Ellis, as well as Ana's partner Mark Riedl though they never met. Her late parents, Eckford and Betty Strowd and her nephew, Jason Strowd, will be joining her in heavenly reunion.
Avid fan of John Grisham and Janet Evanovich novels, Connie had an enduring love for the arts, from her adoration of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces to the rhythmic tunes of Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Tears for Fears, The Cure, REM, Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin. Her laughter could be heard during episodes of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, and her gasps and commands to characters could be heard during episodes of Law & Order: SVU, while her favorite movies, Avatar and The Dark Crystal, often brought a twinkle to her eye and captured her inner child and love of whimsy.
An ardent supporter of the MSU Bulldogs, She related well with their tenacious spirit. On quieter days, she found solace in napping, doodling, reading, gardening and watching TV. Her favorite color, green, encompassed her lively personality and her fondness for nature.
Connie's legacy will forever be one of heartfelt kindness and caring, reaching out not just to humans but extending to animals as well. She was a woman known for her infectious smiles, generous heart and zest for life. She will be dearly missed by anyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Her love for walking, her favorite form of exercise, was symbolic of her journey in life - taking each day as it comes, step by step, appreciating the journey more than the destination. Connie's life, characterized by her warm, funny, feisty, and cunning nature, will be forever etched in our hearts.
