Known affectionately by many as Chris, he left a mark on everyone he met with his laid-back, quiet, and calm demeanor. His love for shooting pool and playing golf was well-known and provided many hours of joy and competition among friends and family.

A highly educated man, Chris began his academic journey by graduating with an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Elementary Education from Kittrell College in 1965. His thirst for knowledge didn't stop there, as he later earned a Certificate as a Polygraph Examiner from Fairfield University in 1972.

Chris’s industrious nature led him to a variety of professional fields. His career path began in the USA Army in 1966, serving his country with honor and diligence. He later pursued opportunities with Vornado Inc. in 1970, and Pinkerton Detective Agency in 1980. His tenure at Fisher Scientific, starting in 1997, was a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Chris is survived by his nephews, Mack Bernard, Casey Bernard, and Kelly Bernard, his niece, Demetria Bernard, his cousin, Anita Cotton, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other beloved family members. Fond memories of Chris will be treasured by his family and those who knew him.

Chris was predeceased by his siblings, Ann Tillman, Carolyn Hairston, Kitty McConnell, and Andrew Hairston Jr., his parents, Rose Russell, Mattie Link and Andrew Hairston, and his nephew, Junest Hairston. Their memories live on in the legacy left by Chris.

In remembering Chris, we honor a man of integrity, commitment, and quiet strength. His contributions to his career, family, and community were immeasurable and he will be deeply missed.
