Colin's obituary
It is with a profound sense of sorrow that we announce the passing of Colin Edwin Cornwall, a gentle and kind man of unparalleled honesty, and unwavering dedication. Born on August 11, 1940, Colin peacefully left us on January 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of taking on any challenge life brought him with a smile on his face.
Colin is survived by his loving spouse, JoAnne Cornwall, his two sons, Andrew and Matthew Cornwall, his cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and Chelsea Cornwall. He was predeceased by his brother, David Cornwall, and his parents, Constance Mary Cornwall and Edwin John Cornwall.
Born in Selsey, England in the crucible of war and its aftermath, Colin learned to overcome adversity at a young age. His father joined the war efforts, while Colin and family hid in bomb shelters. Lack of antibiotics during the war left Colin's partially deaf, but he refused to consider this a disability. Colin's father returned from war physically, but deeply scarred emotionally from combat. His parents marriage would become another war casualty.
Everyone had low expectations for Colin and told him often. A poor child from a broken home, many perceived him as stupid because of his hearing and speech, and calling him fat because of his size. He caught a break when he took his eleven plus tests in school, scoring so well he was sent on a technical education route in Chichester, England. In addition to his studies, Colin took up Rugby, which he would play for many years. He also developed self confidence knowing his teamwork was appreciated and his size was an asset.
Colin did very well in school, eventually studying Engineering. Colin found work in a slow economy in England
his life long unwavering dedication and tireless effort shone in every aspect of his life, particularly in his professional career. One of his most significant accomplishments was his contribution to Spacelab, a project that remains a testament to his dedication, expertise, and commitment to exploring new frontiers.
In his passing, Colin leaves behind more than just an impressive professional legacy. He leaves lessons of resilience, of dedication, and the simple, compelling power of a good man's actions. He remains an inspiration to his family and all who were fortunate to know him, teaching us that it is not just what we achieve in life that matters, but how we live it. Our world is indeed a richer place for having been graced by Colin's presence, and he will be deeply missed.
We invite all to join us in celebrating Colin's life and legacy. His lessons will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he touched, and his memory will forever remain a beacon of strength and inspiration. Rest well, Colin. Your legacy lives on.
