Clyde's obituary

After battling lung cancer for 7 months, Clyde Leslie Warrick, age 84, of Plano, was called home by his Savior Thursday evening, November 8, 2012. His last hours were spent with his wife and family and he passed peacefully in his sleep.

Clyde, or Les as he was known in his youth,

was born at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights on February 26, 1928 to Ruth (Barber) and George (Pat) Warrick.

His brother Frank was born May 4 1929. His

mother died in 1932. His father married Dorothy M. Thomas in 1933 and a sister, Dorothy, joined the family in 1939.

By this time the family had moved to Streator. Clyde was active in scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

He also played saxophone in the Streator

High School Band.

After graduating from high school, he attended Bradley University for one year and then transferred to Purdue, where he graduated with a degree in Forestry.

Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the army and served at Fort Belvar during the Korean War.

The army used his first name, so from then on he was known as Clyde. It was during this time that he began his career as a land surveyor, spending much time in Arizona for the army. After his release from the Army he worked in Arizona for another year and then moved to Elmhurst, IL where his family was living.

He went to work as a surveyor for Webster Engineering in Wheaton, IL. It was there that he met the love of his life, Mary, who was a secretary and bookkeeper. (Being a practical man, he fell in love with someone he knew could handle his finances). She also provided him with an instant family. Mary and Clyde were married Feb 13, 1960, and he became "father" to Donna, Benny, and Debbie Daniels.

The family settled in West Chicago, moving to 402 E Washington Street, where they lived for 33 years. On July 2, 1961, a daughter, Julie was born to Clyde and Mary. Suzanne Bryant (now Treudt) became a part of the family after living with them during part of high school.

Clyde worked for the same engineering firm for 28 years and then completed his career by working 10 years in the Du-Page County Maps & Plats Department. He retired in 1993.

After his retirement Clyde and Mary moved to Plano, purchasing his "country estate", where he could pursue his love of the outdoors, bird watching, and gardening. He would spend the remainder of his life there. It was in Plano that he also found a home at the United Methodist Church where he served faithfully for almost 20 years.

Clyde was a man of varied interests. His greatest love was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grand children and great-grandchildren. In his younger years he enjoyed many years working with the Boy Scouts.

He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, canoeing and gardening. He was an avid reader, loved crossword & jigsaw puzzles, and playing card games (especially pinochle). He had a fantastic memory and was always willing to share his knowledge on any subject.

He was a fan of baseball and football. He would spend many hours listening to games on the radio because he preferred the sports announcers on WGN. So he spent many hours listening to the CUBS games even though he favored the White Sox.

Even when he watched the games on TV, he would turn down the sound and listen to the radio an-nouncers. This habit was very helpful in his last year as his sight began to fail.
