Background
Clyde Gooden, Sr., aged 82, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marita Gooden, their three sons—Clyde Gooden Jr., Paul Gooden, and Tim Gooden—and his cherished daughter-in-law Heather Gooden and grandchildren, Tim Gooden and Emily Faith Gooden. Also mourning his loss are a host of extended family and friends.
Clyde's early years were spent building homes alongside his father, C.O. Gooden, in the Wichita, Kansas metro, where their reputation for quality workmanship was well known.
He earned a degree in mathematics from Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University), which laid the foundation for a remarkable career transition during a challenging economic period. Embracing the burgeoning fields of aerospace and computer science, Clyde's work in technology became a defining aspect of his career, inspiring his sons to follow in his footsteps.
His fascination with technology was more than a career; it was a passion for problem solving, whether through home improvement projects, auto repairs, or simple everyday challenges, all while interjecting his signature humor.
His love for technology was matched by his profound faith in God, which guided him throughout his life. His deep love of God was the cornerstone of his life.
Clyde’s anthem for life are the lyrics of Andrea Crouch’s song, Through It All. Some of the more notable lyrics are listed below.
“I’ve had many tears and sorrows.
I’ve had questions for tomorrow.
I’ve been a lot of places
And I have seen millions of faces
Jesus let me know that I was his own
Through it all
Through it all
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus
I’ve learned to trust in God
I’ve learned to depend on his Word”
Clyde will be remembered for his faith in God, his love of his beloved wife Marita, his unwavering commitment to his family, his innovative spirit, his signature humor and the joy he brought to those around him.
