Shango's obituary

Clive Lloyd Downs a.k.a., “Shango” was born on the 13th of January 1969 to Beverly and Ken Downs in a small town by the name of Burton upon Trent in England. He attended the Firs Estate Primary School and then went on to Bemrose Secondary School. Shango lived in three different counties over his lifetime, the UK, Jamaica, and the United States. Although New York and Florida was where he called home. At the age of 14 when he traveled to Florida he attended Parkway Middle and then Dillard High School. Shango met his first love at 19 Quetsy Mieles, later having his firstborn “baby girl” Shantel Mieles-Dixon. In 2000 he had his second child Zion Shield Downs and his bonus son Keilijah Shield by Korean Shield. Then in 2004 his last son Shiloh Shield Downs was born. Shango’s kids were his life. It was always family first.
Shango lived a fast life but was always underrated despite his struggles and what he did not have, he made anything look cool. Taking care and protecting his loved ones was his number one mission. He was a soldier and raised 3 boys on his own. He has been independent since 16. Through the adversity all he knew was survival. He was a self-taught HVAC/AC technician and handyman. He was essential to the Lauderhill Community. He stayed on guard and was prepared for any situation. His motto was “Stick together” and “DTA” don't trust anyone. He dreamed of an easier life and better lifestyle for his kids. That’s why he moved to Valdosta, Ga. to be closer to his daughter and his grandsons Jahmir and Ayce Dixon. Life was looking good on the horizon but God had other plans.
Our hearts are heavy but we know he will no longer struggle or be in pain. We all loved Shango’s toughness, his teachings, guidance, his sense of humor and musical artistry. The best dad one can have and the wisest man we knew. Forever Our Protector.
The family of Clive Lloyd Downs would like to thank everyone for their kind expressions. Your phone calls, texts, love offerings, communications, thoughts, meditations and prayers have all helped significantly during our time of bereavement. On Thursday the 11th of February 2021, Clive Lloyd Downs a.k.a Shango transitioned from earthly labour to heavenly rest.

Clive is preceded in death by his sibling, Jacqueline (Downs) Perry and his paternal grandmother “Granny Sarah” Downs.
Clive leaves to cherish his wonderful memories to: his father Sydney Downs; his life mother Miriam Downs; his mother Beverley (Downs) Fletcher; his uncle Trevor Powell; his aunty Sharon Powell; his grandmother Ruby Powell; his life partner Quetsy Mieles; his step brother Robert Bailey; his brother Leroy Downs; his baby sister Caroline Downs; his daughter Shantel Mieles-Dixon; his son-in-law Justin Dixon; his little sister Jessica Smith; his stepson Keilijah Shield; his nephew Shomari Downs; his son Zion Shield Downs; his son Shiloh Shield Downs; his nephew Jaylon Clark; his grandson Jahmir Dixon; his grandson Ayce Dixon; as well all oh his Aunties, Uncles, Cousins and Friends throughout the USA, UK, Bahamas and Jamaica.
